Made in the River / Made by the Marsh Made by the Marsh Event 16th to 17th May. As part of WHOOP Artist programme InspiralLondon will be on the western fringe of the Hoo Peninsula, in the magical marshy hinterlands of the Thames Delta. Come and join the artists Charlie Fox (InspiralLondon Director) and Sylak Ravenspine at St Marys Church Lower Higham and share in the creativity of the watery environments that digest and transform all our waste material. Made in the River/Made by the Marsh workshop exchange and wandering, introduce you to the creatures emerging from the marshes and its Thamesside environments. Creatures from the future-past, displaying features of new life forms, made from a wonderful mixture of natural and inorganic alchemy. You can view these hybrid creaturely materials under a simple microscope or add some marshy life to the creatures. Come see, Made by the Marsh, and be surprised! Saturday 16th May morning 11-1.30pm Creature making workshop – Made by the Marsh. Using found materials already collected and selected, collecting wild plants to weave into the creature skins. Saturday 16th May afternoon 2 – 3.30pm Creature making workshop alongside a living display of the emerging creatures. This includes hybrid material collection and samples which can be viewed under a digital microscope to see how new life is remaking, regenerating and transforming the materials. Around 3.45pm the creatures will make an unexpected appearance in and around the churchyard. Transport using trains from London to Higham is good on Saturday 16th May. You can walk from the station to the church (approx. ¾ of a mile or 15 minutes) Sunday 17th May morning 11-1.30 (Lunch) Creature making workshop alongside a living display of the hybrid material collection and samples from the marshy Thames using a simple microscope and other devices. Sunday 17th May afternoon 2-4pm Final making and dressing workshop for the creatures including a time to pre-perform creatures in the Church Graveyard from 3.45pm. During the weekend there are displays, readings and performances of other Whoop artists: Bryan Hawkins Hooliday ‘Postcards’ work, and Fiona Spirals bird inspired artworks, poetry reading and curlew soundscapes.
