Inspiral Thamesstream Walk Part 2
Meet at Greenwich Peninsula Ecology Park at 2.30 on Sat 2 May info sign up HERE
This walk continues our day of exploration, celebrating Inspiral’s dedicated support for ecological sanctuaries – exploring 3 vital urban ecology projects – while joining up 3 spirals of the 300 mile trail on the south banks of the River Thames.
This Thamesstream Walk links through walking and soundscapes three vital sites for urban ecology in London, sites particularly significant for migrant birds. This exploratory walk is an opportunity to revel in the diversity and unexpected beauty of the Thames as it runs out towards the Estuary, while listening and encountering livestreams made for soundcamp project – located near to the Thamesside Trail.
This Inspiral Thamesstream Walk is part of Reveil 2026 – celebrating international dawn chorus day. It is inspired by past collaborations and continuing collaboration between soundcamp and locussonus. InspiralLondon and other partners will include a new livestream, broadcasting from Kerala, South India; while relaying and experiencing sound ecology from four different livestream microphones broadcasting for Reveil #2.
Details of Route:
Leaving Greenwich Peninsula Ecology Centre at 2.30pm to walk along the Thames to Woolwich Foot Tunnel. Here we will stop to experience the livestreams and walking streams from Reveil 2#: memories of Barking Creekside, of watery foxes and walking by night. Hear these livestreams combining with the soundscapes of the Thames, echoing its complex ecology (3.30-3.45pm). Then we continue along the Thames pathway, out towards Thameside Ecology Study Area to reach Tump 39 soundcamp around 5.30pm . This walk celebrates some places of Sanctuary for the creatures that share this city, and all the other cities that punctuate the fragile surface of the Earth.
Please wear suitable clothing, good walking shoes or boots and bring water/ plus refreshments. Walk approx. 5.5 miles.
Further instructions on walk and transport will be provided when you sign up. Note: this walk is the second walk of the day. You can join the walk in the morning – see here then continue on this second walk in the afternoon.
