Inspiral Thamesstream Walk

From 10 am on May 2 InspiralLondon will take you on a walk along the River Thames from Stave Hill Ecology Park towards GPEP (Greenwich Peninsula Ecology Park). This walk celebrates Inspiral’s dedicated interest in supporting and celebrating urban ecology projects while joining up 3 spirals of the 300 mile trail on the south banks of the River Thames.

This exploration links up three vital sanctuary sites for urban ecology in London, sites particularly significant for migrant birds. The walk is an opportunity to revel in the diversity and unexpected beauty of the Thames as it runs out towards the Estuary, while listening and encountering livestreams located along the Thamesside Trail. These livestreams and Reveil projects, inspired by past collaborations between soundcamp, locussonus, InspiralLondon and other partners will include a new livestream broadcasting from Kerala, South India; while relaying and experiencing sound ecology from four different livestream microphones broadcasting for Reveil #2.

A second part of walk in the afternoon will take us onto Woolwich, towards Thameside Ecology Study Area, where we make a final link with Tump 39, a soundcamp project for Reveil.

This InspiralLondon walk along the river in London is also a part of Mountains of Hope – a global invitation to walk in solidarity with communities along the Lebanon Mountain Trail between 3 April – 3 May. Mountains of Hope is a collaboration between the Lebanon Mountain Trail Association (LMTA) and Kinetika (UK), alongside multiple participants.

Details of Route:

Leaving Stave Hill at 10 am and to arrive at GPEP for a lunch stop around 1.15-2.30pm. Here we will listen to the dusk livestream from Kerala, South India and the stream upriver on Thames tributary broadcasting from Erlegh Wood, while encountering GPEP livestream (co-created by sound artist Ian Thompson). The walk is approx 4.5 miles long

Please wear suitable clothing, good walking shoes or boots and bring water/refreshments.

Further instructions on walk and transport will be provided when you sign up.
