InspiralLondon Re-Walks and Detours May 2024

InspiralLondon 2024-25 Re Walk, Re Map, Re Tell.  A Spring Walking Festival

From Spring 2024 to 2025 InspiralLondon sets out to rewalk, remap and retell the 300 mile spiral trail, first walked in 2015. We invite all kinds of artists, walkers, urban explorers and the curious to experience the magic of this unique pathway; to join us on short walks, walking workshops and participate in exploring the unexpected urban landscapes revealed by the inspirallondon trail. ON weekend 11 –12 May and 17 May join Re-Walk & detours with Urban Tree Festival 2024:

Saturday May 11 (10.30am -1.30pm) from Emirates Air Cable Car towards Forest Gate

Re-Walk Segment 12 from Emirates Air Cable Car Northside towards Forest Gate – an urban transhumance in the steps of urban animals, to explore the sensory city. A walk led and devised by Watery Fox (artist Charlie Fox) and featuring orniphilosopher J D Swann. More info and sign up HERE – then in the afternoon:

Saturday May 11 (2-5pm) on Segment 13 with JD Swann from Forest Gate to Wood Street

Join orniphilosopher JD Swann to walk Segment 13 from Forest Gate to Hollow Ponds and on towards Wood Street. You can join a short part of this Epic Epping Forest Walk from Forest gate to The Green Man Interchange (near Leytonstone) More info & sign up HERE

Sunday May 12 (2-5.30pm) Wood Street towards Silver Street via William Morris House

Join Inspiral Associate Artist for springtime wander as we re-walk Segment 14 – Explore InspiralLondon Trail Wood Street towards Silver Street via Walthamstow and the William Morris House Gallery and Gardens. More info & sign up HERE

Sunday May 12 6-7.30pm to Pymmes Brook walk, in celebration of inSpring rewalk festival

For the adventurous we will take a short walk from Silver Street towards Pymmes Park to find Pymmes Brook, along a redesigned Segment 15 and finish the day with an improvised picnic in celebration of Spring and inspiral rewalking festival. More info & sign up HERE

On Friday May 17 from 5.30pm-8.45pm One Tree Hill (meet Honor Oak Park Station) to North Greenwich

Re-Walk Segment 11 Join InspiralLondon’s Charlie Fox to walk from One Tree Hill to North Greenwich, exploring Urban Trees, Undergrowth & Urban Forest Canopy with unique shorter walk interlude across Greenwich Park. + (or join us in Greenwich Park @ 7.30pm for short walk) More info and sign up HERE

You can come and join this walk in the evening for a short slow walking from 7.30-8.45pm and experience London walking in a totally other way: for gentle Slow walking with InspiralLondon Artist Rachel Gomme. This interlude of slow walking where we take time to sense into and savour the delicate details of our own movement, and the beings, substances and flows around us.

11-19 May The Urban Tree Festival is an annual community celebration of trees, including their benefits, beauty, majesty, and magic, in cities, towns and all urban environments. Events, celebrations, walks, talks and storytelling are held across London and the UK, bringing all our communities together to educate, inspire and share their enjoyment of trees.

We completed this part of the walks despite the rainy weather.

Friday May 3 from 5.30pm – 8.30pm – Inspiral Re-walk 5 ‘Knots towards Batter Sea’

We re-walked Segment 5 from Finchley Road to Battersea Park – approximately 7.5 miles. Picking up the re-walking of the complete InspiralLondon trail with Director Charlie Fox. This walk will trace some conscious and unconscious steps toward Batter Sea, a new land submerged in gigantesque furniture and with its glittering unreal reefs. There is an option to join us for shorter walk as part of this evening event. More info and tickets HERE

On Saturday May 4 from 10am-2pm Segment 6 from Battersea Park to Southwark

Re-Walked Segment 6 with InspiralLondon and Director Charlie Fox – as we track a greenway across South London to Southwark Park – with a day of urban ecology exploration. More info and tickets HERE or in the afternoon:

Saturday May 4 Soundings Beneath Southwark Walk 2pm-3.45pm  Sign up HERE

Joined us in the afternoon for a short walk from Dilston Grove/Southwark Park to detour to Stave Hill Ecology Park via Rotherhithe Village – with unique contributions from InspiralLondon associate artists Gail Dickerson, Keith Turpin, Isa Suarez and Charlie Fox –new perspective on what lies beneath our feet. Together we explore geology, tunnelling, waste, soil and underground sound. Then joining Reveil 11 – soundcamp’s extraordinary annual live audio feed & listening event at the Ecology Park. Refreshments provided.

Sunday May 5 from 2pm – 6.30pm Segment 7 from Hilton Dock Ferry to Stamford Hill

For those who enjoy a shorter walk we started the re-walk with Underground/Overground Resounding from 2-4pm with walk drawing and gentle artistic interventions along the way. Meet at Canada Water Tube at 2pm – to be at the start of segment Trail at Hilton Dock Ferry – Canary Wharf side. Then, you can continue re-walking of Segment 7 (4 – 6.30pm) with InspiralLondon associate artist Richard Couzins – an Elevation Walking  along the Lea Valley. Bank Holiday Monday May 6 10.30am-2pm Segment 9 Cricklewood to Hammersmith

Re-Walked Segment 9 from Cricklewood to the River Thames at Hammersmith Bridge. This classic Inspiral Trail walk reaches Kensal Green Cemetery, follows the Regents Canal, then passes Wormwood Scrubs, diving through hidden passageways towards the Thames River. More Info & Sign up HERE

Afternoon Monday May 6 from 2–6pm from Hammersmith Bridge to the River Wandle.

Re-Walked Segment 10 from Hammersmith Bridge South side towards the Wandle River and on across South London to Herne Hill. A unique geology/ecology exploration with Inspiral London Associate artists Rachel Gomme and Gail Dickerson. More info and sign up HERE

Or Meet us along the way at Wandsworth Park (near Putney Tube at 3.30pm) For a short detour walk exploring the unique geology, ecosystem and environment of the Wandle River. This walk follows a short part of Segment 10 to walk a section of the River, from near the Thames through King Georges Park.
