DESCRIPTION:Songlines for Greenwich BlackHistory 365 celebrations link to BOOK for each invidual walk below:\nRetellings – four interlinked Celebratory Walks for BH365 on Saturday 12 July 2025\nInspiralLondon’s Songlines for Greenwich creates a day of polyphonic shared exploration for Black History 365 celebrations – with four interlinked walks along the InspiralLondon Trail – the first 2 parts are longer walks (10.30am – 1pm then from 1.30-3.30pm) arriving at Oxleas Woods. Here there will be a unique walk workshop led by Frances Calliste around Severndroog Castle woodland from 3.30pm -5.30pm. Before we descend via bus\, across Woolwich Common to the Riverside. Then\, in the early evening (6.30-8pm) join us for a  final short walk event led by local artist Bonita Charles\, around Woolwich Riverside \nThe day of explorations start from Mottingham\, passing through Eltham\, as the trail flows towards the River Thames. This walking event links up different parts of the Borough\, to explore Black Lives – unique reclaimed stories and hidden histories – located in Greenwich’s diverse landscape. On these walking tours you will experience and celebrate unexplored Black History hidden in Greenwich’s historic building\, its ghost traces\, found buried in the cityscape. \nWe welcome all to this day of interlinked walks that celebrate Black history and cultures within Greenwich as we traverse the Borough from Motterham to Woolwich. We will stop on the way for performances\, talks and celebratory retellings – with partners including Severndroog Castle\, and Clockhouse Community Centre. \n \nYou can join us for 1 or more of the walks – or for full Retellings experience book for the whole day HERE – All walks are free but you must Book. Note if you cannot make the walk on day or need to cancel we are grateful if you can in form us via Eventbrite.  \nRetellings First walk: Ghosting Inspiral\nRetellings starts promptly at Motterham Station at 10.30 am (10.30am-1pm) to trace a ghost path along Inspirallondon trail toward Eltham station. We pass along King John’s Way to arrive at the end of this first walk exploration near to Eltham Palace.  Taking time along the way to admire the views\, share readings and local stories before stopping for a picnic lunch with refreshments at around 1pm. \n \n(Image: The only known likeness of Yemmerrawanne – a silhouette profile in the Sir William Dixson collection of the State Library of New South Wales.) \nNotably we visit the gravestone dedicated to ‘Imeerawanyee’\, or Yemmerrawanne\, a ‘slender\, fine-looking youth’ and a ‘good tempered lively lad’ who soon became ‘a great favourite with us\, and almost constantly lived at the governor’s house.’\nOn the walk we hear tell about this extraordinary story\, the first encounters between the English colonisers and the native Australians of Warrane (now Sydney Harbour) – of songlines lost and found; Of the first time an Aboriginal song was performed in Europe by Bennelong and Yemmerrawanne – the printed score\, the oldest known published music from Australia ! \nBook HERE \n  \n \n  \nThird Walk –  Severndroog Retellings – Trade\, Piracy and Colonialism (3.30pm-5.30pm)\nLed by theatre artist Frances Calliste \nWhat secrets lie beneath a hill so tall\, that caused leaders to rise and fall ? \nFollow us on a gentle nature walk starting at Severndroog Castle\, Shooters Hill\, to venture into the surrounding ancient woodlands. \nWe will learn how this castle came to be\, and reflect on the other histories mirrored in the post-colonial past. We’ll explore modern day piracy\, sea shanties\, flag symbolism and much more ! \nO Mother\, my mother\, cruel mother country\,\nHow sweetly your siren-song sounds o’er the sea!\nIf it weren’t for your arms\, an orphan I’d be\,\nO mother\, my mother\, cruel mother country.’\n(Angeline Morrison – Cruel Mother Country)\nStrolling around Oxleas Woods with musical\, poetic and thoughtful interludes. led by local artist Bonita Charles \nMeet at Woolwich arsenal station \nWe will walk the trail of Black Women Writers\, who have local connections to the
borough of Greenwich\, and/or Woolwich. We will be exploring the works of historic writer Phyliss
 Wheatley as well as contemporary writers from the borough such as Bernadine Everisto and listening 
to extracts from their poems/novel. \nThe walk will take place in Woolwich\, and we will be walking to
personal heritage sites described in the novels/writings and will be incorporating multisensory
activities to immerse walkers in the experience. Lastly\, we will uncover and reimagine the mythical

DESCRIPTION:Join Gentle Walk Exploration (from 3pm -4pm)- meeting in Clockhouse Community Cafe \nThen Launch and Research evening on Night Excursions (5-7pm) \nAt the start of programme of open meetings and walking research InspiralLondon welcomes all to the Clockhouse Community Centre to explore the area called Woolwich Dockalnds\, now and its past\, as a dock of haven and sanctuary. \nIf you come to the Cafe at 3pm (depending on weather) we will start gently walking the area and building on the narratives of Sanctuary and Haven we have already explored. We will take time to have some welcome tea and refreshments then use the meeting room to share and develop our research together. SUMMARY:Made in the Mardyke - Walk & Workshop
DESCRIPTION:Made in the Mardyke – Emerging Creatures \nFrom 10am-1pm join walking artist Charlie Fox for a creative project where we’ll be  walking and collecting materials from along the Mardyke. \nThis second walk of three in a creative project led by inspiral director\, Charlie Fox\, in partnership with T-100 and Made in the river collective (mitrcollective.com). As we walk together we will explore the Mardyke River as it runs back to the Thames from Davy Down Riverside Park. On this walk we will be observing the Mardyke’s origins and celebrating the river’s creativity in refashioning waste material. \n \nFor this walk along the Mardyke and back towards its the mouth at the Thames\, we examine the landscape with river eyes and observe the marks of ancient creatures. We will see and collect new hybrid materials along the pathway\, that inspire us to make together creature elements\, skins and creature costumes. The workshop following the walk will be a fun way to begin further exploring the river\, its  environment and other (non-human) inhabitants that make their home on its banks and flood plain. \nFrom 1pm -3.30pm Workshop at Kinetika Studios \nAfter the walk we will share refreshments and if you wish you can help refashion these found transformed materials into elememts and parts for the Mardyke creature costumes that will appear during the final performative walk T100 Festival on 31 May 2025. \n \n  \n \n  \n

DESCRIPTION:Walks programme from mid May 2025 – September 2025 \nInspiralLondon’s Re/Walk Festival – Excavate\, Explore\, Exchange – Celebrates the 10th Anniversary of InspiralLondon Trail with a festival of seven plus seven\, unique walks as participatory experiences. The festival walks will take you to other hidden and less well-known parts of the city; detouring from the trail\, in exploring underexplored\, buried aspects of the city or walking together by night. \nWe wish to share the magic and multiplicity of the city with all its diverse inhabitants\, and to get you walking; to explore the city with renewed curiosity\, by excavating the other buried narratives and histories that make London so unique. Together\, we will re/walk and re/make the city by foot. \nRe/walk is generously supported by tfl WCGL grant\, the Royal Borough of Greenwich and other walking group partners such as Kinetika T-100\, Walking Artist Network and soundcamp. \nInspiralLondon is an artist-led metropolitan trail\, a collective on the ground mapping\, that offers a new walk trail spiralling out and into London. This anti-clockwise walk begins at Kings Cross\, unwinding from its centre point six times\, to finally end at Gravesend\, only to begin again. This unique Metropolitan trail crosses the River Thames at ten locations\, using bridges\, foot tunnels\, a cable car and ferries. At over 300-miles of pathway\, the trail is divided into 36 segments all easily accessible by public transport\, allowing the public – walkers\, urban explorers\, excursionists\, citizens – to experience the city and its environs as one vast space in which to re-imagine together the built and natural environment. 2025 is the 10th anniversary of the trail’s first festival and opening. \n               \nsupported by soundcamp\, T-100\, inspirallondon associate artists & counterproductions.

DESCRIPTION:Sanctuary – Rewalking Woolwich Docklands Research Evening 5pm-7pm on Thursday 27th February (and before if you have time we meet 3-4pm  in Clockhouse Community Cafe to join a gentle walk exploration around the old Clockhouse Riverside location): \nThis open workshop meeting is the second of a series of research workshops and walks designed to share and explore the area – with a focus on the area as a Haven and Sanctuary.  The research builds to InspiralLondon’s walk festival – Songlines for Greenwich – and our further Re/Walking festival (May-Sept 2025). All are welcome to join and contribute ideas\, research and shared experiences. \nWe will have some light refreshments and will look at the maps/streets\, research resources and some visual material to focus our attention on the places\, people and narrative streams we might wish to refollow and retell new stories. \nAnd we are delighted to be working once again with Clockhouse Community Centre and with Greenwich Peninsula Ecology Park. \nNote: other new  partner events will take place in Spring 2025. \n  \n  \n
