SUMMARY:MemoTrial toWard the Watery Commons
DESCRIPTION:CHOHW Memotrial toWard the Watery Commons (4-7pm Sunday 27th Sept) \nPerched for a time on the tidal beach\, between segments 6 and 7 of InspiralLondon Trail\, we invite you to join us at start of a two hour walking detour to the confluence of Bow Creek\, Channelsea River\, Limehouse Cut\, Lea River and Lee Navigation; here\, to search out the perpetual flame at Twelvetrees Memorial Garden. In tracing these confluences\, the memories and fluid nature of the city and its material\, we invite you to make your own Memotrial toWard a Watery Commons. \n\n\n\nThis is a specially commissioned walk for CHOHW event – at low tide on Sunday 27 September – meet by Three Colt Gallery from 4pm – come prepared to walk with a mask (full socially compliant instructions on day). \nFor pre-screening view of: Inspiral Ghost Dance‘\, Sarah Sparkes\, 2018\, 5’15”\n \n\nInspiral Ghost Dance is an Inspiral London Commission. Supported using public funding by the National Lottery through Arts Council England. \n\n\nSarah Sparkes’ ‘Inspiral Ghost Dance‘ features a performance with members of the Inspiral London Collective\, walking in spiralling formation\, viewed by a mysterious ‘watcher’ above. Together\, over three years\, we walked an anti-clockwise spiral from the centre of London to Gravesend. This film shows us on the final leg of the walk. The singing was made by our collective at a workshop led by Anne Robinson and Mikey Georgeson. The Drone was operated by Ben Foong. It was all a joyful collaborative experience and I made this film to celebrate.

SUMMARY:A Folly Revealed - Walk through Beckenham's Watery Follies
DESCRIPTION:A Folly Revealed\, on Saturday\, 26th of September\, 4.30 – 5 p.m. Live on Instagram.   https://www.instagram.com/nicole.mollett/ \n\nOn Saturday September 26th\, 2pm\, Meet at Ladywell Station (nr to Lewisham)\nJoin Inspiral for a walk along the Ravensbourne to meet artist Nicole Mollett on a tour of her home town; to celebrate the unveiling of Beckenham’s latest folly\, created in the artist’s garden. The unusual circumstances of 2020\, and the lockdown provided a unique opportunity to realise this ambitious project. Nicole and her father Peter Mollett collaborated together on what became an epic venture\, both in terms of collaborating and learning new skills\, including how to wattle & daub. The resulting creation is a highly ornate shell grotto\, containing many fragments from different places and stories connecting to these objects. \nImage: A Folly Revealed – courtesy the artist Nicole Mollett.

SUMMARY:A Midsummer Skulk of Foxes 4
DESCRIPTION:A Midsummer Skulk of Foxes 4 – Preserving\, Cleansing and Projecting our Watery Commons. \nOn evening of 17 June 2020 – Live event HERE\, in solidarity with a call for action from French citizens to agitate against the retoxification of the planet\, InspiralLondon will conduct a collective walk from out the mouths of London’s rivers. As French activists agitate for recognition of the extraordinary potential of a post-oil and de-toxified world we join them in a celebration of our planet’s continued health; to Skulk on this midsummery evening walking/thinking the future of the planet\, and more immediately skulking for the health and life justice for all offspring\, human/ non-human\, and all the diverse creatures that rely on a Watery Commons. \nWhen ecologists and activists first drew attention to London’s lost and hidden waterways\, the very rivers and canals that made up the city’s watery lifelines\, they could only describe how poorly they were treated; not much more than open drains\, many had become integral to the overflowing Victorian sewage system. Now\, thankfully cleaned up in part\, they are seen as valuable real estate\, the inner-city brownfield sites: biodiverse\, with their unkempt beauty\, they are readied now to be buried under concrete and glass. After this brief interlude of planetary detoxification\, this rush to return to a new ‘normal’\, promises yet more useless growth and unnecessary consumption. But we still have time to think\, pause\, so as to Preserve\, Cleanse and Project our Watery Commons and all the other common ground that is our planet. \nTo celebrate this other common beauty\, IL Director Charlie Fox shares with other Watery Foxes elderflower champagne in a charming cleansing and projections of our Watery Commons\, and in pledging to preserve that vital legacy. Watery Foxes for the evening include: Rachel Gomme\, Clare Qualmann\, Richard Couzins\, Ali Pretty\, Charlie Fox\,  Alex McEwen\, Calum F Kerr and Miyuki Kasahara\, Ian Thompson and Sarah Sparkes. Streaming from Woolwich and the Roding River\, North Greenwich and the River Lea\, and other riverine locations. \nYou can participate by listening to the event and joining the mobile livestream mics on locussonus soundmap (from 7-10.30pm) or for online event from 8.45 pm sign up: \nHERE

How we co-exist with the other and how we might reflect on the human beast through the eyes\, ears\, and padded whiskered feet of vulpes vulpes. \nTo listen go to Reveil Platform Page and on left hand side scroll down the projects to play button A Skulk of Foxes – a collective of charming couplings across London – and you will hear the mix (if not see the locussonus soundmap). You can open this map in another window\, focus in on London and identify fox mics as listed below as they move across the city to meet in small couplings and chatrms – at Woolwich Thameside\, at Finsbury Park\, along the Lee Valley; in Camberwell and up in dark Epping Forest:\n \n \nThe mobile live mics on locussonus soundmap will remain live throughout the evening from approx. 7.45pm to after midnight on Saturday. So if you miss the live project mix you can still pick up individual sound streams across London marked variously with account names that include – ‘skulk of foxes’\, ‘otherwalking’; ‘inspiral’ (Will Brook/names of other artists). A full list of mics and monicas will be updated on Saturday. Enjoy… \n  \n \nAs cities emptied – hollowed out by lockdown at night – a skulk of urban foxes leaves their comfortable earths to set out on a hunt for food and entertainment. Individual foxes\, and couples\, searching for the sounds and life of North and South London make journeys towards each other\, listening and tracking their territories for rival scavengers and ‘wildlife’. As midnight approaches\, the North and South River skulkers will meet in couplings to discuss and dissect their evenings’ charming wandering. Questions of what was heard\, what sensed\, seen and experienced; of the other walking the city and of our co-existence with other inhabitants. \nOptimal Social Distancing measures are followed in the making of this collective urban fox soundscape and many of the mobile mics will be following parts of the inspirallondon.com trail. Urban foxes leave their home simultaneously at 8pm (GMT) for dusk sounding and will be making their discursive meetings between 10.30-11.30 pm. A skulk of foxes is an inspirallondon project for soundcamp 2020 with a collective of mobile mic handlers-foxes. \nFor the collective pooled event the artists and associate inspirallers include: Jamie Beddard\, Will Brook\, Richard Couzins\, counterproductions\, James Eastaway\, Rachel Gomme\, Calum F Kerr & Miyuki Kasahara\, Frog Morris\, Alex McEwen\, Sarah Sparkes & Ian Thompson\, Keith Turpin and Anne Robinson. \nLink to REVEIL 2020 soundcamp events – 2 to 3 May 2020 \nFor inspiral\, interview\, discussion and sound walk with soundcamp in June 2019 visit here

DESCRIPTION:TICKETS HERE\nMeet outside Finchely Road Tube at 11 am Sunday 1 March 2020.\nContinuing a clockwise exploration of InspiralLondon Trail we walk segment 4 from Finchley to Finsbury Park. A reverse  spiralling back from Finchley Road through the unconscious\, the subconscious and into the collective (un)consciousness of North London\, as we cross Hampstead Heath\, pass Highgate Cemetery toward the Archway. SUMMARY:Rare Trees and Timber of Peckham: A 21C Beautification Walk
DESCRIPTION:All welcome\, to explore the trees and timber heritage of Peckham – mulberries\, redwoods\, italian oaks and whitten timber – the extraordinary diversity of the areas trees\, fauna and urban spaces. \nFor this short introductory walk exploring the trees and urban ecology of North Peckham – join the Ecologistes – InspiralLondon mini-festival of city walking & Urban Ecology. The 21C Beautification Committee artists Rachel Gomme and Charlie Fox will guide you on a unique tour of the rare trees of Peckham and encounter the extraordinary timber that made South London. The walk will take a loop from Peckham Square northwards along old Surrey Canal greenway to Glengall Wharf Gardens\, where we will stop for refreshments to take some time to visit this unique permaculture garden. Then along the edge of Burgess Park to Central Venture Park\, to the back of Sceaux Gardens to discover Bellenden Road Nature Reserve (London Wildlife Trust). We will be finishing at Peckham Square. Nearest tube Peckham Rye Overground or buses to the Square (Routes include: 12\, 36\, 37\, 63\, 78\, 136\, 171\, 343\, 436). \nThe tour takes 2 hours – along a route approximately 1 and 1/2 miles long. Wear suitable walking shoes and if hot bring a water bottle. \n \nRachel Gomme will be introducing you to some of her favourite street trees in Peckham. We will look at how trees survive\, thrive and contribute to the health of the city. Together\, we’ll be making symbolic links between isolated trees along the way\, ‘twinning’ them as a reminder of the forest community that is their native environment\, and taking bark rubbings from trees we meet to create new pairings. \nCharlie Fox will share insights into the history and future of urban tree planting and the potential of living timber. Introducing the work of Tree Stop – a mobile prototype tree propagation system – for the cultivation and re-introduction of diverse individuals within the urban tree population. \nThis walk is part of a larger project of 21C Beautification Committee – to care for\, understand and plant street trees for the future. It’s inspiration lies in the work of the original Beautification Committee set up by the first female Mayor of London Ada Salter. Through her leadership the whole of Southwark was transformed into a green welcoming urban environment. \n  \nOn the day we hope to be joined by special guest tree expert on the day (tbc) and we are also delighted to be running this free walk in partnership with Peckham Platform. \n \nEcologistes – InspiralLondon mini-festival of city walking & Urban Ecology is part of National Park City Festival 2019. A night service runs from the station/underground plus option of numerous night buses. \nEcologistes – InspiralLondon mini-festival of city walking & Urban Ecology is part of National Park City Festival 2019. SUMMARY:Inspiral Spring Walk - Fire & Forest Gate
DESCRIPTION:On Sunday 28 April (date and time tbc) InspiraLondon takes us on urban ecology exploration from Forest Gate (segment 13) across Wanstead Flats to search for signs of new growth – following the summer’s grass fires in London’s Forest interior. \n‘Not since London ceased to be subject to recurrent fires\, due to the carelessness of its citizens…has the urban area been subjected to such cataclysm as the blitz… The effect … has been to produce extensive areas of open ground throughout the most heavily built up parts of London\, and this has naturally had a profound influence on the fauna\, and more especially on the flora of the area.’ (London’s Natural History\, R S R Fitter 1945 – Chapter: The influence of War\, p. 228-239) \nThe effect of fire and its significance in providing opportunities for new species to colonise fresh sites is better understood now\, as well as the regenerative potential of fire as evolutionary strategy. On this walk\, along segment 13\, we will examine both the lucky and unlucky consequences for urban ecology and forms of bio-diversity within the ‘Forest’ Borough. \nWith guest artists including soundcamp (tbc).
