Time and Start is confirmed – Saturday 4 May 2019 – leaving from London Bridge RECEPTION at 11 am to arrive at Stave Hill camp around 12.30pm for Lunch by Leon\, and following this for opening of Soundcamp events – Platform’s The Tent That Can Hear. \n  \nMEETING POINT:\nStation RECEPTION is to be found outside the main station on St Thomas Street opposite juction with Weston Street. If you are coming out of station take the exit to your left towards St Guys Hospital which takes you onto St Thomas Street and then turn left again so you are walking East towards Bermondsey Street. We are delighted that Jessie will be joining us for the walk and can give us an update on the sound streams. \nDuring the weekend of Soundcamp\,  Reveil 6 makes a 24 hour loop of the earth at sunrise\, relaying live sounds from a global network of soundcamps & streamers; as part of celebration of International Dawn Chorus Day. \nInspiralLondon will take us on a walk that introduces you to the history\, future past and future present of urban ecology\, and explore something of our desires and needs to create sustainable cities. \nIf you are not planning on joining Soundcamp for whole weekend this walk provides an ideal introduction to urban ecology/sound ecology and the recent history of the area. (Book here just for the walk) \nFor full details of Soundcamp Weekend Program 4th-5th May: \n http://soundtent.org/2019/soundcamp_london_2019_program.html \nThe sixth soundcamp weekend:\n\nBook Tickets for full Soundcamp weekend camping.\n\n\n\n \nSee here for more details – Soundcamp 2019

SUMMARY:Inspiral Spring Walk - Fire & Forest Gate
DESCRIPTION:On Sunday 28 April (date and time tbc) InspiraLondon takes us on urban ecology exploration from Forest Gate (segment 13) across Wanstead Flats to search for signs of new growth – following the summer’s grass fires in London’s Forest interior. \n‘Not since London ceased to be subject to recurrent fires\, due to the carelessness of its citizens…has the urban area been subjected to such cataclysm as the blitz… The effect … has been to produce extensive areas of open ground throughout the most heavily built up parts of London\, and this has naturally had a profound influence on the fauna\, and more especially on the flora of the area.’ (London’s Natural History\, R S R Fitter 1945 – Chapter: The influence of War\, p. 228-239) \nThe effect of fire and its significance in providing opportunities for new species to colonise fresh sites is better understood now\, as well as the regenerative potential of fire as evolutionary strategy. On this walk\, along segment 13\, we will examine both the lucky and unlucky consequences for urban ecology and forms of bio-diversity within the ‘Forest’ Borough. \nWith guest artists including soundcamp (tbc).
