SUMMARY:Small Traces - Sanctuary & Sustenance Walk
DESCRIPTION:“Small Traces” meet at 11 am on Sat 25 October at London Bridge\nBOOK HERE (Free for Southwark Residents) \nJoin InspiralLondon and Dancer Ranjini Nair\, for Small Traces\, a walk that interrogates micro-connections that tell of the colonial history between Britain and South Asia as we pay attention to place names\, ghost signs and historical figures that populated Southwark\, starting from London Bridge and weaving a way to Elephant & Castle. \nOn the way we’ll follow the traces of the first Indian temple dancers brought to London\, who stepped off their boat at London Bridge. Their presence was widely reported in the newspapers\, sometimes even through imagined letters written in their voices. In their memory\, I’ll share Indian dance gestures along the way to bring certain words and ideas to life. \nAt the end of the walk\, we pause to write postcards\, in our own voices\, addressed perhaps to London\, to those Indian dancers\, or to the other people and moments we’ve met along the route. \nExpect to be surprised\, engaged and entertained! Please visit inspiral website for updated info on project walks HERE or subscribe to our newsletter here \n \nSanctuary and Sustenance offers three unique walking events celebrating the rich contributions of migrant communities within Southwark. SUMMARY:Made on the Mardyke/Made by the River Thames - Totally Thames 2025
DESCRIPTION:Made on the Mardyke/Made by the River Thames. Rainham Marshes Part 2 \n \nJoin us on Saturday 6th September 11am-4.30pm – part of Totally Thames Festival 2025 \nIn the morning join artists Charlie Fox and Sylak Ravenspine for a river creature making workshop\, where you can learn or share new skills and explore the creaturely materials found in the Thames. Materials partially transformed by the river’s own skills and vitality refashioned as the hybrid skins of mythical new creatures. This workshop is generously supported by Kinetika People and T100. \nThen weather permitting –after lunch – we will move on with the creatures to explore the River Thames near the Mardyke confluence\, and search for the emerging creatures… looking into the past\, experiencing the present and imagining into future: in the next 100\, 1000\, 10\,000\, million years – imagining what hybrid creatures will appear in the post-natural environment of the Thames Delta? PLEASE BOOK HERE \n \nWith workshop participants and the creative input from the river as it transforms the materials that make up its environment\, we encounter some creatures from the near future emerging from the River Thames. And as we picnic together\, by the river\, we will discuss the Mardyke and the larger Thames rivers – as natural resources\, grappling with all the human waste and pollution thrown their way; to think about how the river digests this waste\, transforms it and is transformed\, in a hybrid cycle of regenerations. \n\n\n\n11am-1.3opm Workshop Making.\nPicnic/lunch break\n2pm- 4.30pm pm walk to Thames/Mardyke confluence with the creatures.\n\n\n\nFor the day of exploration: \nPlease note – you are advised to bring a picnic\, wear suitable clothes\, shoes for weather conditions – some refreshments including water (tea and coffee) will be provided. We are asking for donations from £5-10 to support the work of InspiralLondon – If you cannot afford to donate then email contact@inspirallondon.com and we can reserve you a free space. \n \nPart of Totally Thames 2025 and generously supported by Kinetika and T100 walking projects: \n \n

From there we continue this sensory walk that explores Urban Trees/Undergrowth/Urban Forest Canopy and meadow lands wreathed in flowers. \nDuring the first part of the walk\, Rachel will be identifying 2 or 3 short stretches of the trail as an interlude for slow walking – where we take time to sense into and savour the delicate details of our own movement\, and the beings\, substances and flows around us. You can join us just for this part of the walk. \nThis beautiful stretch of walk chimes with the walks made for the Urban Tree Festival (in 2024 and in 2025) tracking the unfurling of leaves in late Spring as the undergrowth & Urban Forest Canopy begins its immense greening of the city. \nFor those unable to make the start but would like to experience a short inspirallondon walk you can come and join our trail walk later in the early evening for a short slow walking start at Northwood Hills from 5pm and experience London walking in a totally other way. SUMMARY:Distant Sounds of Migration - BH365 celebrations
DESCRIPTION:Distant Sounds of Migration. Part of BH365 celebrations 2024-2025 \nOn Saturday 24 May – Meet 2pm at the entrance of Greenwich Peninsula Ecology Free BOOK HERE \nA Short Walk celebrating migration\, exchange and other listening in the city\, in collaboration with Greenwich Peninsula Ecology Park\, taking a leisurely walk to visit other nearby green diverse ecological spaces – to share other fun and informative ways to see the city and its different inhabitants. \nWorking with the Friends of Ecology Park and other walking groups\, this exploratory workshop investigates the relationship between urban soundscape\, environment and the way that people share open space. The walk starts with a short introduction to the fascinating feats of bird migration – looking for the three main visitors to the UK from Africa that use the wetlands\, along the riverside\, which might include: African Terns\, a variety of marten or swift\, and African reed warblers. \nWhy do they travel so far\, up the Thames Estuary and where do they actually come from? Much of this remains a mystery but in Late Spring as the leaves unfurl and insects busy themselves multiplying their activity a variety of migrating birds come\, feed and breed. With longer days and an intensity of green flowering the birds take advantage of the welcome refuge at Greenwich Peninsula Ecology Park. For this event we continue to take a birds’ eye perspective of travel\, exchange and interaction… and trace a new history of migration and exchange. \nThe walk as part of Black History 365 celebrations celebrates migration and the introduction of plants\, people and customs from the Caribbean and from Africa – all parts of the rich diversity supported in the Boroughs networks – as a place of Sanctuary and of inter-migration. This walk event is made in partnership with Greenwich Peninsula Ecology Centre. \n \n \nPart of BH365 celebrations 2024-2025 – Generously Supported by Royal Borough of Greenwich.\n \nNote for full updated details of walks and event please going to Eventbrite to book TICKET \nfrom 9 April 2025. \n \n \n \nsupported by soundcamp\, TCV Greenwich Peninsula Ecology Centre & inspirallondon associate artists. \n \n
